01 - INTRODUCTION

Building a business banking product from the ground up.

ACE Business Account is a digital financial product built for business owners and single-director companies in the UK.

I worked across the product from its early wireframes through high-fidelity UI, interactive prototypes, responsive web experiences, feature evolution, and end-to-end testing — continuously refining the product as requirements, capabilities, and partner integrations evolved.

OVERVIEW

The experience brings multiple business financial workflows into one platform, including sending and receiving money, managing cards, adding funds, invoices, scheduled payments, and cross-border transfers, etc.

Because the product was being built from the ground up, the work involved more than designing individual screens. I had to understand the product domain, map complex flows, and continuously adapt the experience as new capabilities became available.

THE CHALLENGE

The product was being developed as a new business banking experience, while some existing flows from the Consumer Account provided a useful starting point.

The challenge was to adapt those established patterns to the needs of business users, while also understanding new requirements, analysing competitor products, and creating a consistent experience across mobile and web.

As the product developed, partner availability also influenced which features could be launched. This meant designing the experience around what was available at each stage while keeping the product ready for future capabilities.

02 - APPROACH

How I

approached the design.

01
DOMAIN FIRST, PIXELS SECOND

Before designing screens, I mapped how each feature worked and studied competitor products to understand common design patterns, user expectations, and areas for improvement.

02
FLOWS BEFORE SCREENS

Every feature started with wireframes in Figma, then high-fidelity UI and an interactive prototype. This helped keep edge cases — errors, empty states, pending transactions — visible early instead of being discovered in testing.

03
EVOLVE, DON'T PATCH

As product requirements matured, I redesigned experiences such as Cross Border, Tap to Pay and Cards rather than layering changes on top. I also redesigned the Business Account dashboard and refined flows, including Pay Money and Payment Scheduler.

04
DESIGN IS NOT DONE AT HANDOFF

I stayed involved beyond the design handoff through UI validation, functional, responsive, and regression testing. I documented bugs, validated fixes, and retested the experience to ensure the final product matched the design and worked as expected.

03 — MY ROLE

My contribution

My contribution spanned both product design and quality validation, covering the experience from design through to testing.

04 - OUTCOME

Final result

The project grew from early wireframes into a complete business banking experience across a mobile app and responsive website.

01

A COMPLETE PRODUCT TOOK SHAPE

The product moved from early wireframes and visual exploration to a fully designed mobile app and responsive website.

02

COMPETITOR INSIGHTS SHAPED THE PRODUCT

Competitor analysis helped inform design decisions around familiar patterns, feature structure and areas for improvement.

03

THE PRODUCT CONTINUED TO GROW WITH NEW CAPABILITIES

New features were designed as partner integrations became available, while existing experiences were refined and revamped.

04

DESIGN WAS CARRIED THROUGH TO RELEASE

Beyond designing the experience, I validated the product through functional, UI, responsive and regression testing.
